Anxiety and Depression

They often go hand in hand

You are going about your day as usual and then suddenly something starts worrying you. You can't stop thinking about it. You are convinced something bad is going to happen. Your body does not feel safe. You can't do anything but worry. Your brain vacillates between wanting to be logical and being totally afraid. Your heart races, your palms sweat, you feel a pressure in your chest, and your breathing becomes shallow. It's exhausting.

Life feels exhausting. So exhausting you don't want to do anything. You feel hopeless, like things will never get better, like you should know how to fix them, but you can't and so it's your fault. You can't sleep or it's all you can do. You can't eat at all or you're eating too much. You can't focus on anything. And then you worry things will always feel this way.

The cycle continues.

Whether you are experiencing symptoms anxiety, depression, or both, therapy can help.

Therapy for Anxiety

Music therapy can help you get to know your anxiety, where it comes from and how it impacts you, while giving you skills to bring yourself back to the present moment and make peace with your anxious intrusive thoughts.

We will explore what anxiety feels like in your body so you can notice sooner when you may be beginning to spiral. We will explore what calm feels like in your body so you can identify what helps your body feel safe and begin to ground yourself and bring yourself back to the present when anxiety shows up. You may learn techniques like deep breathing, guided visualization with music, calming playlist creation, and others, depending on your individual needs.

Rest assured, you do not have to hold anxiety alone. I can support you in this process and support you in returning your body and mind back to calm and safety.

Therapy for Depression

Depression can feel impossible to overcome, in part because finding the motivation to do anything can feel impossible. Making the choice to come to therapy is an incredible first step. Finding a connection with the right therapist can begin to help the fog lift and help you feel less alone.

Music and movement can help activate your body's natural ability to move out of a frozen, depressive state. Music therapy may help you express the feelings that may feel too challenging to verbalize and ease some of the burden you are carrying. I will work with you to find creative ways to express yourself, reconnect to joy, and alleviate your symptoms and lift your mood.

Central to my approach is a gentleness aimed at helping you foster self-compassion and self-acceptance and develop new perspectives that align with your values and goals. This self-understanding and acceptance can bring you the motivation to move forward even when things feel hard.
