Seeking therapy is brave.
Admitting you need help is challenging, vulnerable, and courageous. You may have never tried therapy before, or maybe you have, but you didn't have a great experience. You may not believe therapy can work for you or your child. Therapy may feel like a risk - why take on such an investment and share so much of myself, my family, and my world with a total stranger?
Therapy can be so many things.
Yes, therapy can be work, hard work. And it can be a place to learn about yourself, share whatever might be burdening you, let the feelings you've been hiding have a voice, discover your sense of joy and purpose, a place to scream and curse, a judgement-free space where you can find, remember, and create your authentic sense of self. Something wonderful about music therapy is even if we don't do much talking, you can still have a transformative experience.

Getting to know each other takes time. Getting to know yourself takes time. We can do both by discovering the unique and creative ways in which we can connect. I am so excited to get to know you. I hope you are too.


More about Music Therapy
Music is powerful. It exists in every culture. People everywhere use music everyday to motivate themselves, find a sense of calm, learn new concepts, connect with others, and express themselves. Music therapists harness the power of music that people have known for thousands of years to help clients achieve therapeutic goals. You probably already use music in some really supportive ways. A music therapist can help you get the most out of music.

Music therapy sessions may include a wide range of music experiences including live singing and instrument playing, music improvisation, music listening, music and movement, music and imagery, songwriting, music-assisted relaxation and/or music technology projects. All of these music experiences will be planned and adapted according to your needs and preferences. No formal music training is required to participate in music therapy.
About Me
Hi I'm Lyzz. I know we just met, but I want to share something with you. I was the kid with big feelings that had to grow up too fast, the teenager that shut everyone out, and the adult who lost her voice and sense of self. I even lost my connection to music.

Through the growing pains of adulthood, and with supportive listeners, including my own therapists, and music, I have found ways to express my feelings, reclaim my voice, and re-connect with myself, and others (I even make my living out of it!). I want to help do the same thing (even if you don't want it to be your full-time job.)

In therapy with me, we use the creative process to tune in to your feelings, thoughts, and experiences, find places of peace and safety, explore and rewrite your stories, and express your authentic self. We will connect with music, yourself, and those around you.


My Background
I am a board-certified music therapist and pre-licensed mental health counselor. I received my BA in songwriting from Berklee College of Music. I found the academic approach to music and the full-time singer-songwriter lifestyle was not for me. I wanted to connect with music and others in a different way.

I received my Masters of Mental Health Counseling and Music Therapy from Lesley University in 2023. My coursework included exposure to several expressive arts therapies which I also use in practice, including art, dance, and drama. This training also included two years of clinical internship experience.
​
My clinical experience includes school-based music therapy with elementary school children at King Open School, outpatient mental health counseling and music therapy with children, teenagers, and parents at Arlington Youth Counseling Center where I also co-facilitated a support group for domestic violence survivors. In each of these spaces I facilitated support groups for staff members. I have also facilitated courses in using music for wellness, and spent four years teaching adaptive music lessons in voice, piano, guitar, and ukulele.

I have training in narrative therapy and vocal psychotherapy, and am certified in solution-focused therapy, Somatic Voicework(TM), and The Fox Method, a trauma-informed approach to the arts and music education.

While I have experience treating a wide variety of mental health disorders and presentations, I specialize in treatment of anxiety and depression, trauma, performing artists, and children and adolescents.
